Issuing invoices yourself

Last updated 3 November 2026

By default you issue the invoices for your sales yourself, with your own accounting or invoicing software. Martiqo gives you everything you need for each order. There is no extra cost.

What you do

  1. When a buyer pays, open the order on Martiqo.
  2. Issue an invoice to the buyer with your invoicing software, using the buyer's invoicing details from the order.
  3. Send it to the buyer — for example by email or through the order's messages on Martiqo.

Where to find the data

  • On each order: the buyer's invoicing details (name, address and, for businesses, VAT number), the items and prices, and the VAT amount when VAT was added.
  • Accounting export: your orders and payments for a period, for your accountant or bookkeeping software.

What an invoice must include

The exact rules depend on your country — check with your accountant. In the EU an invoice normally includes:

  • a unique number from your own sequence and the issue date;
  • your name, address and VAT number (if you are VAT registered);
  • the buyer's name and address, and their VAT number for business buyers;
  • what was sold, quantities and prices before VAT;
  • the VAT rate and amount — or a note why no VAT is charged (for example reverse charge);
  • the total amount.

Orders paid in several parts

When an order is paid in several parts, each payment is usually invoiced when it is received (an advance-payment invoice), with the final invoice settling the rest. Your accountant can tell you how to handle this in your country.

Prefer not to do this yourself?

Stripe can issue the invoices for you automatically after each payment, for 0.4% of each paid invoice (at most €2.00). See Invoices issued by Stripe.
